Principal's Corner
Hello everyone!
My name is Collin Stewart and I am the new principal at Walnut Elementary. I look forward to meeting and working with you throughout the school year. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, ideas, or concerns you may have. I firmly believe in the saying “it takes a village to raise a child”. I am super excited to be part of this village.
I grew up in Vancouver, Washington. After graduating from high school I served an LDS mission in Venezuela. I attended BYU-Idaho for my undergraduate studies and Nova Southeastern University and Lamar University for my graduate studies.
I began teaching in 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I then moved back to Idaho and taught for the Idaho Department of Juvenile corrections from 2006 - 2012. I went to Castle Rock, Washington for the 2012 - 2013 school year but decided to move back to Idaho. I taught Science, Health and Spanish at Sugar Salem Junior High School from 2013 - 2022. In 2022, I accepted the principal position at Ashton Elementary School and was there for 3 years.
My wife, Megan, and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary this year. We have four daughters and one son. Tamri is 21 and will be attending BYU-Idaho this year. Kenna is 18 and will also be attending BYU-Idaho this year. Paislee and Jaidree are 13 year old twins and will be attending Rock Springs Junior High School. Oliver is 7 and will be attending Stagecoach Elementary. We also have a labradoodle named Gus. He will be 2 this December.
I enjoy travelling, reading, playing the piano, cooking and spending time with my family. We like to play games, get outside, and visit our family that lives in Utah and Idaho.
Fun facts:
- Apart from education, my dream job is to be voice for a cartoon movie character
- My favorite color is orange
- My favorite thing to eat is arepas or cachapas (Venezuelan)
Again, I look forward to this upcoming school year and the great things we can accomplish together.
